Ronald Reagan was signing many autographs post Presidency for bookplates etc...The later signatures vary alot from how he signed as President. I think the inscription although it is close to his handwriting might be secretarial. I have a photo he "signed and inscribed" as Governor and the inscription and many thenks was very close to his own writing and i found out through Reagan autograph experts that it was signed by a secretary.
I believe this is the best place to get an opinion as they have authenticated my Reagan's over the years. They are quite knowledgable. But my guess is the inscription was not done by the same person and or method as the signature.
good luck,

Wildchild-
I just wanted to show you a great example of variation (from the same person) Both signatures below are 100% authentic. Now I agree with one of the previous posters on this topic that the dedication could have later been added, I'm just trying to help you out when it comes to recognizing certain traits among the same signer. The example given is Gene Simmons from KISS. :)
Image -----Considered a clean beautiful signature.

Image ----A quick, rather half-assed attempt.

I've got about 22 years into this autograph collecting thing. Sure, some things still puzzle me but this Reagan example is a good place to start for people beginning to spot differences among the same signer! :)

Well...it looks (to me, at least) like "Ronald Reagan" was written by somebody other than Reagan himself. It's too big, and he had smaller-looking handwriting. :)

The "official" sources will typically show you a perfect penned (often autopenned) signature. Most would agree that the 8x10 in question has almost identical handwriting as this letter. Image

Excuse me. It's only an autograph. I thought it would be best to post a picture that was taken from an "official source," like the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. I would think that they would have a copy of what his real autograph looks like out of anybody else I would trust.

Are you a handwriting expert with 40 years of experience? Do you realize that there is always variation in a person's signature? So you're answer is to post a blurry autopenned copy of his signature from an 8x10 and say, compare! Yes, that's an autopen....his real signature has more variation than that. I'd love to hear an actual explination from you as to why this signature is not real, not just because you said it's fake. I believe the signature to be real. Furthermore if it's fake, it's a darn good one!

It matches most of his authentic signitures, but it tough to tell without actually seeing it and looking at it person so I can't say i am 100% but I would say that the autograph is authentic. Reagan had a fairly easy signiture to duplicate so it could be a sec, but I would say its probablly not a PP or AP...Also I think the incription on the top that dedicates the photo to someone was put there by someone else. Great piece {up} [us]
