I remember getting a photo back once that had a dedicated signature with a very defined signature, you could read every letter more or less. I then, shortly after got a 10x8 (unusual at the time when he sent out 6x4 headshots) with a more scribbled signature. It's clear to me which is real.

As for getting auction items... sure, if that's the way you choose to do it, go for it. It's not how I would go around fundraising but each to their own. I'm looking forward to seeing how much money comes in from those, and wish you luck hitting that £2k target you set.
STILLLUCKY,

Can you email me on reachingrwanda2014@aol.com please?

I need some advice.

Feel free to ask Lewis, but given you blanked the PM I sent last month with some basic advice...

No, I'm saying the vast majority of them are sec.

The reason people say the vast majority of Colin's are sec signatures is simply because they look nothing like his signature nor his handwriting.

Missed the typo in my OP, sorry.

I approach all sorts of people, whether I am a fan or not, and that's what perplexed me in your comment. Nothing wrong with telling someone you're a fan when writing a charity letter, but the focus for you should be the charity angle.
And it is :- )

I have a small para at stop stating that I admire them, and then four explination para's and a newspaper artical.

Lewis
Cool, but does that still mean you're only writing to people you admire or you're telling everyone you admire them regardless. If you get what I mean?

Yes, I get you :)
And the majority of the people I write to, I admire & am a fan off, however some are not.
I'm not made of endless cash to send things out, so thought it might be better when I do have the money to send requests, it better to go to people I can relate to knowing them and loving their work.

I know you cannot say either way on that alone but for me it's enough to make me suspicious.
Colin does alot of work outside the UK I just don't see how they can all come back singed genuinely so quick.
I wrote to him a few years ago and robustly defended them as real then but since then I have questioned this.

It's worth saying I am not alone in raising suspicions that Colin's successes are secretarial.

Someone mentioned Judi Dench email successes are believed to be authentic and they come back fast. That was a good point and indeed something to consider. But she mainly works in the UK now, more UK work than non UK IMO.

Another example is Josh Dallas. A high volume of requests come back fast even though he is spending alot of time in Canada filming. The requests go to a US town where he grew up- so it's possible he is visiting there and signing mail, but from the volumes and speed of return I have doubt about this now. Some time ago I pointed out the above as grounds for them being genuine. But since seeing the succession of quick successes I have doubt.

I could well be wrong but I have my suspicions is all :) This topic has given me more to consider and opened my mind a little.
Oh okay, Thanks for explaining your thoughts. I completely understand ! {up}

How do you know the ones that are coming back aren't authentic ? Everything that he is doing this year is in post production, so maybe he has some downtime. What makes you think they aren't real ? JW. (besides the best wishes thing) {up}
