The worst charity ploy, in my opinion, is donating x number of dollars for each of something (golfers giving 500 per birdie, baseball teams giving per HR). If you've got the money to give, don't leave it up to chance. Just donate it. At least when Pujols does a signing, charges 250 each for 500 tickets, you know it'll sell out and that amount of money will be donated. Nothing left to chance, and it's the same as doing a fund-raising auction or sale. People buy the item, and their money is given on to the charity.
