how do you know he is filming a move, when you do not know till he stops, and the movie is out?

I wouldn't use the CAA address. I have NEVER seen a success from someone that used that address. There should be other addresses for him (publicist and manager addresses).

You never know when Nicolas might start signing, but he is pretty hard to get. I would recommend trying to get him while he is filming a movie.

Someone at CAA told me years ago that they don't handle fan mail for their clients. Probably means they just toss the letters since I haven't seen a success from them.

As far as I know, Nicolas doesn't respond to requests sent to his agency/representation. I have seen a couple VV successes but they are rare--I have tried him multiple times VV and am still waiting.

Sorry for the disapointing news, I hope we can get him VV sometime.
