Re: Tom Selleck Question...

I recently sent out a request for Mr. Selleck (sent to the NRA address, which took about a month) which contained a baseball, baseball card and 3x5 card. I received the ball first (box didn't have a postmark). Kinda of weird when all the items could have been sent back in one box at the same time, so i took the cards as a loss which was fine. I compered the signature to others from on-line (pictures from the web, ebay items which were PSA/DNA) and the signature and inscriptions matched from what i saw. So forward to a week and a half later i received one of those brown hard envelopes you buy from the USPS, had a return address for CBS (makers of his show) but was postmarked from Hawaii! It contained the baseball card and 3x5 card, both signed in black sharpie, but the signatures look almost the same, almost the same size as if it was autopenned. So wouldn't be sure until i send out to PSA or JSA. As for sending items to PSA, it can be hit or miss. I obtained 3 Ichiro Suzuki autographs in person (hat, mini helmet and baseball) and sent them in (the hat first, then a few months later the ball and mini). The hat came back and wasn't able to be authenticated, so sent to JSA and came back authenticated. I then sent out the ball and mini helmet to PSA (PSA is closer to where i live) and those came back authentic. Mind you the autographs were bold and complete so just seem as if they would all pass, but no. So PSA DOES miss the mark at times.

"I sent mine to PSA & they came back AUTHENTIC !!!!!!!!!"

Trust in the signature, not the authenticator. They (the royal they, not PSA specifically) can and have made mistakes. What's their expertise? How do they judge? What's their error rate?

The only way you can be 100 percent sure is to have the items signed in front of you. Period. You can get 99 and a good number of nines percent sure, but never 100 percent on items TTM. Even celebrities who claim they sign everything sent them can be, and have been, wrong. One said they did, but it was a half-truth: All books sent were signed authentically (or at least, 99 and a good number of nines percent authentically), but it appears that photos sent were signed by a secretary.

I'm puzzled. I've been collecting for almost 40 years and I've never heard of secretaries signing anything other than ink. How do you photocopy a signature onto a photo? If it's mechanically applied, it's an autopen. If it's a part of the photo, it's a preprint. John Glenn used to send out photos with computer-generated inscriptions (most likely by running the photo through a printer), but the autographs were genuine.

I sent a letter to Will Estes in January or Feb of this year...haven't heard anything back although I think it might have been my letter. LOL. I sent it to the blue Bloods address.

I already have a Tom Selleck address and rewrote to see if he sends out a new picture rather than a picture of him when he was 30/40 years old. LOL. I guess I can compare between the old autograph and the new. I think I wrote to him when he was on Friends. LOL.

i really hope it's his REAL autograph cause people such as secretary's will sign autographs in pen instead of photo copy etc...making it real ink. Oh gosh..

Two weeks is a VERY short time to expect an autograph or a reply of some sort back. Some get back quickly, some take months or years ... and some, not at all.

I know Will Estes signs because I heard from him around this time last year. I sure hope Tom's are real, though the return postmark makes it a little fishy. Anyways, I'd rather remain ignorant about that.

The new ttms look pretty close but I'm thinking secretarial.

Years ago, he actually had Noel Neill from Superman signing autographs for him. Though it was obvious the "Tom Selleck" autographs were hers, I'm thinking the new ttms are just a secretary who can copy his signature better.

Tom Selleck Question...

by picture_blogger86 » Tue May 03, 2016 7:04 pm

Does anyone know if Tom Selleck signs his own autographs? I know the address is to the National Rifle Association is Virginia and I know he lives in CA and commutes to NY for Blue Bloods so I'm curious whether or not he signs himself...or a secretary. I sent him a letter not so long ago (2 weeks ago?) haven't received anything yet but was just curious.

I'm also waiting for Will Estes, Robert Clohessy from Blue Bloods and Kohl Sudduth from Jesse Stone. (not sure if they sign).
