My family and I have been involved with the California Coastal Horse Rescue (the rescue) for around four years. It is located in Ojai, CA
My son discovered this particular rescue when he decided he wanted to “horse around.†We suggested he try finding a good horse through a rescue. And he did. He found lots of good horses at this particular rescue.
To date we have accumulated several of the rescue horses, and have been a “foster†home for an overflow that the rescue does not have room to house. Several friends and family have also adopted horses from this particular rescue.
Due to the economy the rescue services are in great need. Last year they received an average of two phone calls a week of people needing homes for their horses. Now the rescue receives at least two to five calls per day!
The California Coastal Horse Rescue now has to become extremely selective in this vast inventory of horses that need homes. Many horses now have to be turned away due to the lack of space available, and the expenses incurred to properly care for these animals. I fear that those horses that are turned away are being sent to the slaughterhouses.
We would like to bring awareness to the community that there are horses out there that need homes. There is a minimal donation required for adoption, and a qualification process for any prospective adopters.
At the same time we want to put the word out about a very special fundraiser opportunity, of which I am helping to arrange.
In order to help raise money for the rescue, California Coastal Horse Rescue is sponsoring a fundraiser: “Charity Cruise to Alaskaâ€, June 5, 2009. All that is required is, for guests to book into the fundraiser group set up for the California Coastal Horse Rescue. Each cruising guest (first and second guest per cabin) will be earning $25 for the rescue. The cruise itself costs nothing extra out of the cruiser’s pocket. We figure if people are going to go on a vacation anyways why not choose one that will benefit this rescue? 100% of the donations go to the rescue. If you would like to join in on this fun fundraiser, please contact me, info follows, or the California Coastal Horse Rescue at 805-649-1090.
