I think it would be a shame if he stopped signing. By all means prioritise those who paid to see the show and have programmes etc. but signing stage door after a show is a long-standing tradition. If he's getting swamped by hundreds of people and there are safety issues then maybe that would be fair enough. I was the only person waiting to see Edward Fox and Sarah Miles stage door recently and there were seven of us waiting for Dreyfuss, Suchet et al at the Old Vic. Perhaps the low turn out was due to the respective actors being associated with films from the 70's - a sign of my age I'm afraid
