That is how it's like here where I live.I mean the opposite. They don't mind signing the blank cards but it's the glossies they hate.Maybe since my town isn't big like I said they expect more ebayers than say a bigger city like NYC or LA.

It's just the opposite with me. Now, I can understand celebrities turning down signing "stacks" of photos ( ebayers and dealers do this ) but living in the Hollywood area I have more problems having them sign blank cards or pieces of paper. They tell me "I don't sign blanks".
Here in Hollywood the celebrities prefer to sign photos. But usually when you volunteer a name the celebrity has a change of heart and will sign practically anything you have. Personally I like my name on a photo. A lot of times the celebrity will sign the photo with a nicer signature and sometimes they'll also write out something cool. In my opinion, in Hollywood it's more the paparazzi's fault. Celebrities hate the paparazzi! Because of them you can't have a nice conversation like Nathan did with Tobey. Sometimes, though I see celebrities a lot here, I envy people like Nathan. I wish I could carry a conversation with someone like a Tobey McGuire or a Laura Linney.

That is not necessarily true.I have had one glossy ( This is why I never have them sign glossies) is because I always get weird looks ( Like I am an ebayer) or who should I make it out to? I love glossies but I hate the drama that goes with it.It's always more trouble than it should be.I live in a town where no one comes here.People should be thankful I am even asking them for their autograph instead of getting hassled. It's not just me though....Happens to my autographing buddies and they always get drama from it as well.

-D-O-M-...

a lot of it has to do with the fact that when a celeb is presented with a stack of glossies to sign by a "fan," that "fan" is usually a pro who is selling the signed photos online. they become quite guarded and, unfortunately, are less likely to sign if you look like a pro...

I always tend to notice ( I have been collecting for years) and my friend gets autos all the time and he says celebs, musicians, etc downright refuse to sign photos or glossies. In fact my friend said one time this one musician said hey I am not signing that! You will just throw it on ebay anyways. He says celebs say that all the time and other time he met the lead singer of Puddle of Mudd and he wanted his auto and he said hey tell me what songs I sing.He gets that alot. When I have glossies they always are hesitant and then ask me my name and then sign it but more often I get attitudes like they hate signing glossies.

yeah, i heard from a couple pros that tobey won't sign for them (because they have stacks of glossies).

i tell ya, it sure pays to be kind and gracious. i had the opportunity to speak with laura linney for a few minutes. if you are truly a fan, and the celeb isn't surrounded by folks, you'll find that a lot of them enjoy taking time with you (with some exceptions, obviously).

{thumb2} Congrats! Tobey is a hard signer to get but like you said since you had an autograph book that may of helped.I know for a fact some celebs refuse to sign any 8 by 10s or merch.Like Natalie Portman for example if you ever meet her she downright refuses to sign any star wars or any merch of any kind.
