Went to the BFI London today to see their tribute to Luise Rainer, who celebrated her 100th birthday this week. She was the first woman to win an academy award in consecutive years, 1936 and 1937 and is the oldest living academy winner. After her film, The Good Earth, she gave an interesting talk and a Q and A with the audience. She was looking very well and has a great memory for dates and names. Afterwards, she rested in the "green room" and one by one the 6 people hoping for autographs were invited in. What an honour to meet such a wonderful woman. She signed one photo for me and then went off to give another talk. Her sig matched a ttm success I had some time ago. A memorable evening! Sorry no scans at present.
