Michelle Bachelet was the first woman elected President of Chile serving from 2006-2010 leaving the presidency because Chilean law says a president cannot serve more than one term consecutively, so she has not ruled out running again in the future. In 2009 Forbes magazine ranked her as the 22nd in the list of the 100 most powerful women in the world and in 2008, TIME magazine ranked her 15 on its list of the world's 100 most influential people.
She was at the University of Ottawa receiving an honourary degree today and I was able to get her to sign my photo as she left the ceremony. A reporter also took a few photos of her signing for me so hopefully I will be able to get my hands on those as well.
