Buddy, I hate to be rude... I'm pretty tech saavy, coming from a family of all IT techs. And I don't think anyone is too scared. The most you can do with someones IP address is find out where they live. Which is no big deal, because hello - envelopes are posted all over this thread... I am sure it's not too hard to find out anyways. The next thing you can do is TRY to send the user a virus. But if they have any kind of virus protection, it's 9 times out of 10 going to catch it before it even does any damage. Because, well that's what virus protections do - protect against hackers ETC. And a good firewall. Which, I have. =)
Not only that but IPs are nothing secret. Every time you visit a webpage whoever owns the site can see your IP address. Knowing someone's IP doesn't give you any information about them any more than knowing their street address would, probably less. Even if you know their IP, it is very unlikely that you could get any access at all to their machine unless THEY opened something up for YOU.
So go on. Try to threaten people all you want. =) I have YOUR IP.
OH! & if you know what you're doing you could track someone's internet usage. But Hey! I will tell you what I did today. I logged onto my email account, sent a few emails. I went to Flickr... Ebay, Fanmail.... IMDB.com ... Hmm what else.. If you'd like a play by play of what I do daily I could just email you my schedule. No need to hack anything.
