Buffy Sainte-Marie is a Canadian folk musician and activist. Active since the 1960s, her songs tend to focus on social subjects such as peace and indigenous issues. She is also a songwriter, most notably co-writing the song Up Where We Belong for the movie An Officer and a Gentleman which won her the 1982 Academy Award for Best Song. In addition to music, she has done some acting and was a regular on the TV series Sesame Street throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
She was in the city for a concert and signed a photo for me.
