Bernadette Peters & South Pacific Cast (Broadway)

by Stage Door Guide » Mon Jun 23, 2008 10:52 pm

The day of my NYC trip brought two more in person experiences in the realm of theater.

The first was at the event promoting Bernadette Peters' new children's book, called Broadway Barks. This is the same name of the foundation run by Bernadette and her friend Mary Tyler Moore that finds homes for rescued animals.

Bernadette read the story about one of those animals, and performed an original song from the book's included CD.

There was a signing following the performance.

Many people were getting pictures with Bernadette, but they couldn't compare with the one I got at the Broadway Flea Market in 2007.

That was a moment that defies description!

That night, I saw the revival of thr Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific at Lincoln Center.

It's a very beautiful production, absolutely deserving of this year's Tony for best revival.

It was also strange to have seen so many of this cast in shows previously, including all of Nellie Forbush's fellow nurses.

After the show, I met Matthew Morrison, Paulo Szot (Tony Winner for best Lead Actor in a Musical), Laura Griffith, Lisa Howard (who is moving on to the world premiere of the musical 9 to 5 in LA), Loretta Ables Sayre, Laura Marie Duncan (A longtime friend from the days of the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), and Kelli O'Hara.
