You can see it happening after about six months. In a year, you can really tell.
Of course, there IS something that I forgot about when I posted above. If it is signed with either a Sharpie or Staedtler Lumocolor, it can last fairly well for up to a few years before it starts to fade. But it will fade eventually. I have an International League ball (with a China stamp) signed by several players including Francisco Liriano, signed about two or three years ago that is holding up fairly well but is showing signs of bleeding and fading. It was signed with a black sharpie.
Can you tell what the ball was signed with? It looks like a blue pen, but it's hard for me to tell by looking at the picture.
