I think getting autos through the post is much more exciting, but that might be just me. I love the idea that there's a chance (however remote) that they might read my letter.
If I get an autograph TTM from the UK, it's only cost me about £1 so even if it's fake it's not like I've wasted a lot of money. I would be rather miffed if I'd spent a lot of money on an autograph which turned out to be fake, on the other hand.
It's not a case of me being a lazy person who can't be bothered to research autograph stores and find the best dealers.
I think writing to the same person lots of times, especially if they're really long letters (lots of mine are 10 pages or more) demonstrates I'm not a lazy person.
I just don't like buying autos. I prefer writing letters. It's as simple as that, really. {thumb2}
I totally concur with you there (in the main anyway) I love opening up my letterbox/mailbox, to find my handwritten brown envolope with a wonderful signed photo/index card/letter or even an autograph, on a ripped piece of paper, I'm really not too fussed if it's authentic, then that is what counts.
But dispite the above, I do have a lot of respect for Andy, and if and when I have enough money, I love going to autograph shows and meeting the stars, having a photo taken with them, and getting an authentic autograph, for one it takes all the guesswork out, as to me it does not matter one jot, how good or how honest any autograph website is there's still that little doubt.
I did have a long look at the Autographworld website yesterday, and some of the starting prices where so low, the alarm bells went off in my head, and some of the autographs, esp the ones from older stars seem like they where got TTM, and yes some of them where. Some autographs they say are the real thing like Rex Harrison, are not. REALITY CHECK Rex Harrison hated signing autographs, and would shout at the top of his voice, if anyone he thought was within 50 feet of him would ask for an autograph, Ceaser Romero only ever signed TTM, Betty Davis nearly impossible to get unless it was secretarial. But I do believe the Olivia de havalland to be authentic, clearly some are, but not all of them.
