When you scan a photograph signed with a blue Sharpie it stands out and it just looks better, the black ones are just ordinary..they look dull when viewed on line. I think certain celebs are aware of this and prefer to sign in black so that when their autographs are sold online there will be more questions regarding authenticity and less bidding for that item.

I second that.

Black sharpie, as it fades away with time, will change the colour from very black to brownish, bronze or something like that. While blue will stay blue over the time, making the autograph stable and more valuable.

Professional autograph dealers know that, so some celebs think you are out there to make money. It is better to carry more sharpies with you just in case.

This articles are interesting:

I've been to numerous signings and the assistant and celeb/athlete decide what marker would be best for the item being signed so it's not that they hate blue, they just pick out the best for the item, and most of them it's black for photos, silver for darker photos, and mostly blue or pen for balls. IMO.

I've got many items signed in blue by celebs. {thumb2} Not sure wht some are more picky than others. I'll make this one of my questions to put on future Q&A Cards that I send out!

ive never understood this, certain celebs are told by i guess their manager or agent etc to not sign in certain colors, ive never understood it because a autograph is a autograph, and in my opinon the color doesent make a difference to a fan or a dealer.

I think I've heard they just last longer. I just know, mainly for sports, people advertise it if it was signed in blue.
