However, it is not just moderators who use similies, most of our members do. It is a way of expressing emotion in an otherwise text only atmosphere.
If you find it a pain, don't use them. I on the other hand will continue to do so
By the way jdp3577 is correct. You can disable smilies for your account by going to "Profile" at the top of the page, and checking the box "no" where it says "Always allow smilies".
