I stopped writing actors and musicians because most of them don't reply and when they do, it's usually fake. The only sports figure to send me a PP was Dan Marino and only 6 have refused me all together. Even Joe Montana signed twice (in '07) TTM.
I disagree with the comment about actors and musicians ,Yes a lot do not reply but I disagree with the fake part personally because I have gotten back over 500 autographs from actors mostly and some musicians and out of all of them I got 1 secretarial and a few autopens and all the rest were authentic and signed by the person I sent to. Maybe you just had bad experiences or you sent to the few super famous actors that don't sign fanmail because I have got back authentic autographs from tv stars, movie stars and some are lesser known and lots were pretty famous and they were all authentic. But I do agree with the fact that you don't get a lot back but that's just the chance you take and I find it worth it when I do get back really good ones and you always need to send your own photo and sase.
I'm not some newbie that just sends out letters, johnnylightning, as I've been doing this for 30 years. I ALWAYS follow protocol, send my OWN material and always include a SASE, even though EVERYONE I write to is way richer than I am. What I mean by fakes are PP's, AP's and secretarials. This is from my perspective and experience. The actors and musicians I wrote that I did get fakes from (Metallica, anyone represented by SFM, ect) were people I used to admire. I understand they're busy and all, so I stopped writing them because of their success rate versus athletes. Of course, this is getting WAY off target and I really love how you call me out instead of chiming in with your rationale of the original post. I NEVER wrote super-famous actors and the musicians I liked, I ran out of long ago. I was just stating fact that I've had more success from athletes, that's all. Maybe you get a good response because most movie and TV productions are done in Canada, but I only write to people in America (easier than getting foreign stamps). The lesser known ones I wrote were always groundbreakers or older icons, but most of them are dead now. Plus, I don't waste time watching TV or a lot of movies, but I love sports. So, know your target before you fire.
