The death was announced yesterday of country music star Slim Whitman. He died of heart failure at a medical center in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 90.
Whitman will forever be remembered for his singing style and his ability to yodel. His 1955 hit Rose Marie was the longest standing No. 1 in the UK charts, the record was broken by Bryan Adams 36 years later.
Whitman will be much missed by fans, but he has left behind a brilliant treasure trove of work, much of which can still be heard on radio and on various media to this very day.
