Same here, I had always just thought it was a road that meant something to The Beatles, like Abbey Road did. People can be so odd these days...

I know, they should surely let the local residents vote on if the road should be re- named. Before this, I didn't even know Penny Lane had a 'history' with the slave trade, I thought it was just a road name!

Paul :D

I know! I recieved an email from a place that sends out Beatle news that they were thinking about renaming it too. I was shocked too  and a little bit angry :x I hope they decide to let the residents vote instead of having the government just change it.

Yes that statue is the one in the airport. I heard about Ringo's house was to be torn down, but I don't know what eventually happened- loads of people where protesting against it though.

Today in the news it said that Liverpool City Council are thinking of re- naming Penny Lane. They said they didn't want the city to have anything to do with the slave trade that took place 100s of years ago. 'James Penny' who the road is named after, played a role in the slave trade. I was actually quite shocked when I read the news

I would have to say seeing Paul McCartney live was definately the most amazing experience of my life so far. I was going to go see Ringo in Atlanta, but as far as I know he isn't coming.

I didn't know the airport was called that! That's pretty cool. I have a pic of a John Lennon impersonator standing next to the statue, I think. http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... highlight=

Wasn't there something about they were going to tear down Ringo's old home? I'm not sure. I think there was and people were trying to stop it but he said he really didn't care whether they did or not.

Thanks for all the information, I'm really learning a lot :P

That's amazing that you have seen Paul live. My Uncle won tickets to go and see Paul the last time he played in Liverpool. He said it was quite possibly the best thing he had ever seen.

I don't know if you know this but Liverpool's airport is called the Liverpool John Lennon Airport and there's a 7ft statue of John inside that you can get your photo taken next to. Also somewhere in the centre of Liverpool you can get your photo taken next to the Yellow Sumbarine.

I think you can also visit John's, Ringo's, Paul's and George's childhood homes.

Eeeeek!!! Paul might play there? *shockgasp colapses* I've already seen him once, but I REALLY hope to see him again. Man that would be awesome if I did get to Liverpool, and not only went there, but was able to get there and Paul really was playing. Man that would be awesome.

Paul's my favorite, good choice {up} I love George too, and Ringo is pretty nice. I like John as a musician, but I don't think I really would have liked him as much in person as he seems :? And you've actualy been to Penny Lane? That's pretty sweet.

I've heard about the Magical Mystery Tour, if I remember correctly I've heard it was pretty good too. My friend, the one who I wanted to visit (who, incedentaly, is named Ringo  , or at least that was her nickname) Used to work across the street from the museum, and she sent me a postcard with a picture of the Yellow Submarine on it, which I was pretty excited about :P

Who knew that something as silly as a little parody could turn into as interesting conversation as this? Thanks, I hope I get to come to Liverpool too :)

Yes I do live in Liverpool (about 10 miles from the centre). It's a great city and it won the right to be Capital of Culture for 2008 so loads of things are getting built, such as an arena and it is rumoured that Paul McCartney is to play on its opening night!

I listen to the Beatles alot on my iPod and Paul is my favourite Beatle (Don't know why he just is!) My favourite songs are Penny Lane, Strawberry Field Forever and Back In The USSR. I've actually been to Penny Lane, it's in the south of the city.

In Liverpool you can go on the Magical Mystery Tour and go to the museum at the Albert Dock.

If there are any more question you want answered just ask! I hope you come to Liverpool :D

Thanks Paul. No, I want to but I haven't yet. I'm coming to England for the first time this coming spring (hopefully, if things work out!) and Liverpool was the one place that I wanted to go to, and no one will let me go  I love the Beatles, they're my favorite, and that's mainly why I want to come, but I have a friend there too who I haven't seen in years! and I really want to visit. You live there, right? What's it like? And do you listen to the Beatles? If so, who is your favorite? Lots of questons

That is so funny starreyes! Very clever

Have you ever came to Liverpool?

Paul :D
