Re: puppy

well thanks alot guys for the information youve given me
it helps alot
uhm i talked to somebody about the whole worms/fleas thing and about it being illegal selling sick puppies but they told me that thats not what sick means
selling illegal puppies is like if the puppy has a bad leg or things like that... they said that its common for puppies to have that
i dont know cause other people have told me the opposite
and my older dog is taking ADVANTAGE for the fleas... every month since we've got him like 5 years ago
so hopefully he wont get them, even though i check his body to see if i find any
i dont know if im going to go as far as bombing the house or using spray for fleas
because most people told me that they dont think i need to because when a house is infected with fleas youll be able to see them like jumping out of the carpet, something like that
they nor i see fleas doing that
what my parents did was put baking soda throughout the whole house on the carpet for like 30 mins then vacuum
somebody told my mom to do that and my friend steph told me the same thing that itd kill the fleas
but im going to take peoples advice and take him to the vet for a check up soon even though my friend john (he actually had audio before me as stated previously) took him to the vet like last week but he doesnt remember what they told him
ill try to ignore my puppy when him and my older dog are together... i usually give all my attention to the puppy cause i want to watch him so he doesnt go pee everywhere

theres another question i have how do i punish him when he pees or poops on the carpet?
someone told me to put his face on his pee and tell him no!
and also... i cant get any sleep at night because after he sleeps for like 30mins he'll wake up and start crying... should i just let him cry?
i usually get up and attend to him, let him get out of his crate and pee on the newspaper
but it gets tiring...

hopefully like you guys said they'll get along and become friends :D

Hi moo41 {up}

You certainly need to check out your local pet store :D There are plenty of worming tablets/compounds available which you can give safely to puppies from birth to deal with ringworm, roundworm, tapeworms etc.

Your bigger dog should be protected from fleas and ticks if you regularly use Frontline on him. Your new puppy can be Frontline treated from 8 weeks (see here: http://www.nextag.com/puppy-frontline/search-html )

In the UK we have a spray can thing (pretty expensive - around £13 / $24) called STAYKILL which you can treat your whole house with :D You just give each room a 5-10 second spray in the air and it kills all bugs/fleas/ticks within 1/2 and hour or so. You need to remove all fish/aquatic animals and empty the house of all people and other animals for an hour, but it really does the trick. I am sure you will have something similar in the USA? You don't need to put up with fleas on your dogs or in your house!!!!

Like whosurdaddy said, it will take your older dog a little while to become accustomed to your new puppy, but can you blame him? Suddenly a "youngster" has come on the scene and he feels a little bit threatened - attention-wise!!!! My best advice as a long-term dog and cat owner is to make as much fuss of the older resident as you can when they are together initially, and ignore your new puppy. This will enforce your love to your old dog, and support his position in the "pack". If you give attention to your new puppy in front of your old dog, he will understandably get pretty fed up!

Unfortunately your 'little one' will have to be bottom of the pile for a bit, until he is accepted by your big boy. Give them time and the older one will eventually become his best friend. Don't push it, and let them get on at their own pace!!!!

Believe me, it is you - not them who is worried about it. They are after a quiet life as much as you, so don't push - let them sort it out

Hope this helps!
Ian

Audio is adorable. When my puppy had fleas, we took her to the vet and they gave us this stuff that you put on her fur and it moves through the body and kills the fleas. I am not sure if they will give that to you since your puppy is so young.

Good Luck,
A.F. :D

Spray is fine as a second defense however trying to spray every square foot of your home and the amount of bottles you would need would be insane. It would be cheaper to call in an exterminator. Depending on the square footage of your home and your ceiling height bombs are the most effective. Been there and have gone thru it all. Fleas and Tape worm which your pup most likely has go hand in hand. If an animal has Fleas he more than likely will develop tape worm.

One important note: Your dogs and your home should be treated at the same time. The dogs should be treated outside and left out till your home has been treated. Treating your dogs inside your home before the home is treated is defeating the purpose.

Combating a flea infestation in the home takes patience as for every flea found on an animal there are many more developing in the home. A spot-on insecticide, such as Advantage, Frontline or Revolution will kill the fleas on the pet and in turn the pet itself will be a roving fleatrap and mop up newly hatched fleas. The environment ought to be treated with a fogger or spray insecticide containing an insect growth regulator, such as pyriproxyfen or methoprene to kill eggs and pupae, which are quite resistant against insecticides. Frequent vacuuming is also helpful, but you must immediately dispose of the vacuum bag afterwards.

Even though organophosphate-based insecticides are still sold as flea collars, flea powders and flea shampoos, those are not recommended. Many strains of insects have become resistant against that class of compounds, and they display an unacceptably high level of toxicity against mammals.

okay well im going to bath my older dog, because we just took him to get a haircut not to long ago i think like last week or 2 weeks ago
i think that my parents bought flea shampoo for him yesterday
and about that old method i totally forgot about that, thats when the person at the pet store told me to do also but i just remembered about the dawn
see the problem is i dont know where the puppy came from... and my friend that had him first doesnt know where his 2 friends got him from
i think im going to ask my friend to ask his friends where they got him then
so its illegal to sell a sick puppy? see this stuff i didnt know...

thanks alot chris
ill move on this fast

oh and also, does baking soda kill fleas? someone told my mom that that works

You need to bathe both dogs, and spray your entire house with flea killer. It is not a bomb or in a can, you get it at Wal-Mart in a bottle just like Fe-Breeze, you spray it everywhere and it kills the eggs, and living fleas absorb it through their skin and die, it costs about 5$.
DAWN is for the little puppy, it works really well. You need to buy the apropriate flea shampoo also you get it at Wal-mart for about 4$
An old method is to fill the tub or in your case the sink for the puppy with water, hold the dog under the water so only it's head is not covered, the fleas will all rise to it's head because water drowns them, when they start rising to the head remove them and drown them.
Fleas are terrorists. If you see them in your home you neeed to act very quickly. The sooner the better. 1 can lay 25 eggs per day, so you do the math. In a week you will be inundated with them.
I recomend finding out where the puppy came from, go to the breeder and tell them the dog is flea ridden adn has worms. If they refuse to pay for the medication and flea removal report them to the SPCA or animal control. It's illegal to sell a puppy that is sick.

Your older dog is ok to apply flea medication too. You get a 3 pack at WalMart for 9$, all you do is open the tube and squeeze a stripe from the dogs neck to it's tail. It keeps fleas away for 4 months. The box is a 1 year supply. You basically can get rid of the problem and be sure they won't be back for under 20$.
Good luck, move fast, it will only get worse with time.

oh okay
well we always give him program every month so i believe we gave it to him this month already
ive only had my bichon before this puppy and he was like 5 when we got him so i didnt have to worry about crate training
but my friend john said something about crate training and he bought the crate cage already... but unfortunately he didnt bring it to me and is still at his house
ill have it by tomorrow though im sure

i just got a job last tuesday and now i work every week day from 8.30-5 so i dont know whether to leave him in the crate for that long or what... plus my dad doesnt get home till like 4 and my mom works certain days sometimes till 5 sometimes like till 2

i think i might try what you said about the gates
maybe put him in the bathroom or something

Re: puppy

Your older dog can still get or carry fleas depending on what your treating him with and how long it has been since his last treatment. As far as crate training, I have never done that what I do is i gate a portion of the house off like a bathroom, kitchen spread out papers and train them that way.

ohhh i see so i should just go to lowes or home depot and ask for a bomb that kills fleas and tell them the square footage of my house and they'll tell me what to get?
i just found a flea on my other dog and when i went to grab it it look like it layed a whole bunch of eggs my mom grabbed the flea and killed it and i tried to remove the eggs
can my older dog still get fleas even though we give him medicine?

oh and is it too early to crate train my puppy?
whats the best way to crate train him?
