Honestly, I don't think you can compare a solo artist against a band m.c fan! Elvis was around for a bit before The Beatles, and they both had equally important roles in shaping modern music. I like some of Presley's songs but he's no hero of mine, first and foremost because he didn't write his own songs. Thats very important to me when looking at musicians. I chose The Beatles as I love the majority of their songs, and they composed their own music. They had lots of character too, and if John Lennon were still around today, I think these lazy modern celebs would get more involved in political and human rights crises'. Would John Lennon let the tragedy happening in Zimbabwe go unnoticed? No! The Beatles influenced all the bands I enjoy today, and songs like 'She Loves You', 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun', 'Twist And Shout' and 'Hey Jude' are personally better for me than anything Elvis has done.
