I'm a primary teacher and worked in several schools (let's say about 20) around town (sometimes even for a day) and I absolutely hate the fact that almost everywhere I go there are kids/ parent who recognise / look at me /stare at me.
I'm also someone who likes rest and quietness and being left alone. And 90% of the times I don't remember those kids or people. (because I only worked there a very short time) So I can imagine what is must be to be constantly stared or looked at.
Even a simple hello from someone often makes me feel uncomfortable. It's just...it's my time, I'm shopping, concentrating on doing something, having fun and then suddenly there is someone who knows you. (you don't remember them) and they stare at you..that makes me uncomfortable. If I see them first (sometimes you recognise someone, but you don't know from where you know them) I try to avoid them.
Obviously the kids who you knew longer are mostly fun to see again.

Just to get my 2 cents in.

I think that for some of the older celebs, there can be so many reasons for them not signing. Since they are older, the must have more fans, they will have all the original fans from when they just started out, and from then on it only builds up, can you imagine the amount of fanmail they must get? It would probably take way too long for them to get through it all. Besides that, getting to the age they are (as someone already spotted) they will want nothing more than to relax now, they have done their work, they are now ready to just chill out and enjoy what's left of life. I'm sure that most of them do appreciate their fans though :)

Likewise though, yes I would get annoyed or perhaps a little upset if I don't get my 'most wanted' but at the end of the day, it's always a gamble when you write to celebs, it's just the way of it.

Of course there will be some jerks out there who have no intention of replying to their fans, but you really don't know who is like that, at least not when they're older anyway. If a young celeb chose not to do fanmail then I would think they were just a jerk. But with older people I can understand.

Phew!

Happy collecting everyone - oh, and if you are into anyone older, and they ARE still around doing gigs, then it'd be best to catch them VV I think :D

Hey I agree,
Its quite rude. Seeing as how they wouldn't be where they are today without people like us.
But what are you gonna do? They are just rude people...

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Selena was born in New York City? Whatever that's a minute point. And didn't she get discovered when she was like 9? How does that imply a normal, average life?

Linda Eder had a normal life. She got discovered at 26 when singing in Atlantic City lounges and on the TV show STAR SEARCH. She became hugely popular in 1997, at age 35ish, and she is still for the most part somewhat popular 11 years later, with everything she wants for fame.

And nice story about Ralph Kiner...I was once in an elevator with Vince Carter (and about 3-4 other people), and I was the only "kid" in there...at an airport. All I said was hello when I got on, ..he looked tired, and "not-in-the-mood" type phase, probably because it was 11 PM. Too bad, I should have said something else but I didn't :(.

Two notes for you Miley Cyrus Fan: Thankyou for the first time in this thread you did not bash upon a celebrity ( :D ), and secondly it's HI when saying Hello...not High! You could get arrested for that :).

philly0330 wrote:I actually love a story I heard international-singer-actress Linda Eder (Broadway's Jekyll & HYDE, concert artist) talk about fame. She really thought she'd love it, and she really doesn't! She said that when the show Jekyll & HYDE debuted in 1990 in a theatre in Houston, the day after she left her house not expecting anything dressed in "sweatpants & a scrunchy" to the grocery store to find about 10 fans (not much, but after just one performance) wanting pictures and she jokingly said she had to decline! She defanelty had the potential (and certainly the ability and comparrisons by newspapers and critics alike) to be the new "Barbra Streishand", but she clearly just enjoys a simple life, which I think is awesome! :D
I would be the same! People say to me all the time that I could take my singing further but I don't want to. I'm really shy and reserved so having people following me and strangers talking to me all the time would drive me nuts!
I think you need to be a certain type of person to be famous. Talent is only half of the deal
