I've been a TM for more than 2 months before asking my Team Leader to set up a poll for me to become a full Moderator as I felt that I'm ready. I got great support in the TM forum's poll, but it seems some members had a problem with me becoming a Mod...

And there's been some complains about the TM system so there came nothing from my polls.
A week ago,
admin wanted TM volunteers to help out in the "Feedback" forum (the forum which I vist the most). Of course, I volunteered and I got promoted... finally after being a Fanmail.biz member since November
2005. I did what I was aksed to do (adding people to the $10 gift certificate), unlike another member who became a Mod along with me (I won't name names, but you'll know who I'm talking about).
admin seems very satisfied with me, and also my Team Leader. I'm a Moderator to help out and help sort this great forum out and make sure everything is going smoothly. {thumb2}
I wasnt referring to you specifically, as you weren't the only promoted via the short cut, but as you posted, I'll use you as "the example".
You had a poll, and for whatever reason(s) were not promoted from it. So the majority decision of Moderators was that you shouldnt be promoted.
Then admin introduces a short cut, and you get promoted anyway.
So the "problem" is, that the majority decision of the Moderators meant nothing int he end, as you were promoted in spite of various concerns.
Again, just using you as an example, but can you what I mean? The point of the polls is to say yes or no. If The poll says no, but you get promoted, then whats the point in voting? You see?
Anyways, this topic is not about me.

I think the TM system needs to change before more useless TM's get promoted.

So I've been thinking:
Mabey to become a TM, the same method must be followed as to become a Mod? This is how it could work:
To become a TM, a registered member must contact any
Global Moderator,
Moderator or
admin. Then, a poll gets set up for them
only in the "Moderator" forum. All Mods and admin can vote in a period of 2 months (or it can be more?) to see how this member posts (is a rude, does he know anything about this forum, is he a regular vistor, etc.).

If he seems like he could make a good TM, then he gets promoted.
I don't know, this is only my solution!

Any other ideas? {thumb2}
Thanks,
Lizanne

Yes its definitely needs to be changed before more useless TMs got promoted, especially when scammers are asking to be promoted via the shortcut, it gets extremely worrying. Then again, its worrying enough that known scammers are TMs in the first place, let alone asking to be Moderators
