It is probably a personal assistant or housekeeper. Gene could be away currently and the mail is waiting for him when he arrives and gets the time.
Most big stars will have a staff (gardener, chef, housekeeper, someone to handle mail) though Gene may not have a large, regular staff as he may once have had.
When you watch celebrity reality shows, you'll often see the egotistical stars brag about their large staff it takes to operate their estate grounds.
