Perhaps it is equally bad to hold back, but to be fair, it's on the reactive end of it. I don't think the people who hold back would mind sharing if this was an ideal community, but the simple fact is that it isn't, and we've seen addresses abused time and time again by people who simply hoard autographs. I still post some successes - those that already have previous successes, or have made their fanmail addresses public, or are "Hollywood-ized" celebrities, etc. But there are a lot of times I write to more "obscure" people - ones who generally don't get fanmail and many of you could argue shouldn't even be considered celebrities - and I don't post those because I don't need some of the people here going "Wow, he/she's hot, I'm going to write too even though I have no idea who that is because I just want that picture", or "Wow, that's so cool she sent you her old dancing shoes, I'm gonna write too even though I never heard of her and have no interest in dance", etc. If I see their names pop up on the "Request an Address" or similar forums, I'll PM the user and let him/her know since they're a fan too, but I keep it out of the public eye. Basically, I don't always share with the community as a whole, but I'll always share with a fellow fan.
