You're never guaranteed anything back no matter where you send it. Some people never reply via venue, or any plays. Some people will just send back prints. Some people will only sign a handful of things before they get swamped and then are forced to stop. (Which is what happened with Emma Stone when she did Cabaret). Some people will reply to anything.
So in short, it depends on the person you're writing to, and what they do. I wrote to Saoirse Ronan via the Walter Kerr theatre when they were still in rehearsals, and i only got it back 3 months later (this week). I wrote to Jim Broadbent while his run of A Christmas Carol was still on and never heard back. So i would say just write it anyway. If they're going to reply they will, doesnt really seem to be a definitive answer
