I do it all the time. I get about 65% of them back.
So yeah, it is a risk.

I wouldnt reccomend sending anything that is rare and costly.

I usually go to Amazon.com and get CDs there.
Usually they are really cheap.

You probably shouldn't send anything that you would be upset about never getting back.
But if it's a risk you want to take, go for it.
I know a lot of people have had great successes sending CD covers to different artists.

Otherwise, you could do what Madina said by getting a picture printed out.

Great album by a great band. I think you should try sending it, if you get it back awesome if not then you could just print a pic of the cover off the internet.

if he is known to send back authentics, i would send it. even if they just put it back unsigned it would be okay.

I was planning on sending my copy of Mellon Collie to get signed by Billy Corgan, but im having second thoughts. Should I, or should'nt I? any tips are welcome, as I am new,
