You don't need a 850x1250 picture for a 4x6, if you're having problems with smaller pictures, it's because of the quality of it rather than the size. Just check that the pixels are clean and that it has good DPI.

A tip for finding good photos is to look for them at fansites and picture forums. These will usually have a large selection of pictures to choose from, and they're often retained in their original quality. Even though some people here recommend it, Google Images won't offer you much of a selection (especially in the case of lesser-known celebs) and the images are often degraded to "web quality", which can have messy pixels and lower DPI.

Yeah for a good 4x6 photo, the pixel size needs to be 850 x 1250 or higher. Anything under that will look bad. I too take mine to wal-mart and they print them for me. Never had a problem. {thumb2}

I recommend googling "large size" photo's. If you try to enlarge smaller photo's, they will come out pixilated... {down}

It would technically be illegal, but some stores don't really care, so you can get away with it.

And don't bother resizing photos to make them bigger, the quality goes down very fast regardless of what program you use to do it. Find yourself a bigger one if possible.

When I look for photos on google, I aim for at least 1024X768 pixels. They make great 5X7s. I don't print 8X10s much, but I think that photo size will work for them too.

As for printing, I use a local store to get them professionally done, so I can't really offer advice on home printing.

Hope this helped. {thumb2}

Your local photo store prints out copyrighted pictures? I can't get that done anywhere!
I had Wal-mart give me a hard time but I found another store that I haven't heard a peep from about copyright.

how to do you resize photos?

by nachogirl426 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 11:24 pm

how do you resize the photos? The ones from google are sometime too small. so what do you do? i want them at least 4 x 6 but preferably 5 x 7 or 8 1/2 by 11. i know you can copy and paste to word but when you make it bigger on word, it comes out blurry and bad quality. so how do you print, resize etc? please help and thanks in advance!
