You should read the previous feedback for whoever you intend to send an LOR to. If the person is represented by their studio, agency, television network etc, and that organization always uses their own envelopes, then you will not need to send an SASE, as it would be a waste of money.
Also, as far as "Getting expensive", it's much cheaper in the long run , to send your own requests for an autograph to the person themselves, rather than buying one online and paying ridiculous sums of money without the guarantee of genuineness.
