Just to clarify: if you are using these stamps for INTERNATIONAL mail, different rules apply. You do not need to use "large" stamps for "large" items, nor do 1st class arrive faster than 2nd class. All you need to worry about is the monetary value of the stamps i.e. 39p for regular 1st class stamps, 61p for the large ones (making sure you have enough to cover the cost calculated by the weight).

For Airmail, the only rules are : Length, width and depth combined must not be greater than 900mm, the greatest single dimension must not exceed 600mm. Price depends on country of destination and weight (which cannot exceed 2kg). Prices are here http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... d=53800712

Which ones do i need to put on the envelope if postage is about 1.6p?
No problem ;-)
If the cost of an envelope was £1.60 you would need 5 x 1st class UK stamps {up}

1st class stamps are worth 39p each and 1st class letters usually get delivered about 1/2 days faster than 2nd class. The weight ammount for a 1st class letter is up to 100 grams.

Yes, you can use 2 different types of stamps on the same letter as long as you have the correct ammount of postage ;-)

Hope I have helped!
