If your photos are small, they should weigh an ounce. If they are larger it will weigh about 2 ounces which is 2.08 to the UK.

http://www.usps.com/prices/first-class- ... prices.htm (look at this so you can follow what I'm doing & then you can learn to use it yourself :))

An A4 envelope (referred to as "C4") is 229mm × 324mm or 9.0in × 12.8in.
Anything larger than 6 1/8in x 11 1/2in is classed as a large envelope.
Find the price group of the country you're sending to, in this case UK, which is Price Group 3-5.
Your letter likely wont weigh more than 1oz but you'll need to weight it and find out. If it IS over 1oz, check the table for correct postage.
If it's under 1oz as I assume, it will cost $1.24 (reading it off that table). If you only have Forever Stamps, they are worth $0.44 so you will need 3.

A4--I'm guessing that's letter size, right? I'm really not familiar with UK sizing. If you're using the standard 44 cent stamps, I'd say you'd probably be good with three. Maybe four, depending on how heavy the photos are.
