I walked right onto the Eureka season 4 set last week just before they broke for lunch and i managed to ask for 4 Autographs and all 4 guys were nice and said sure,there was road blocks so cars couldnt drive down the street and a security guard at each one but they let people walk around but then again this was in the small city i live in where they film the mainstreet shots for the show and there isnt really any fans around or need for security because it's a few hours from vancouver.I think in a bigger city the set would be closed off to the general public,i managed to take pictures too without anyone saying anything to me so i really don't know if i was suppose to or not but i only hung around for about 15 minutes total because i didnt wanna be a pest because some of the crew were kinda looking at me like whos this guy does he work here lol

I have been to LA for two weeks and though about trying to get to movie sets, but it isn't so easy to find them, yes you can find signs, but not all of them tells you what show they're filming. You think about LA and finding filming crews on every corner, but this isn't unfortunatly true. You need to be mobile, because some sets are more outside and LA is a very wide spread city, and you never know who is shooting and who is on the set, it may only be 2nd unit work. I thought great two weeks in LA you may get some A-celebs, wrong. I had way more luck in Vancouver.

Some movie sets will actually pay local people to be in a certain scene. Sometimes they'll be given lines to say, but mostly there job is to just walk by the camera or do whatever the director tells them too. 'Background Actors' is another word for them. Just a way to fill up a scene with people so it looks believable. Not all movie sets can afford to pay 'extras', instead they will give out free eletronice like iPods, flat screen TV's, premeire tickets ect. in appreciation for the people's help. {up}

What do you mean by 'hire' as an extra?

so you think going there as a fan could be legit to get an auto?

I actually would not suggest being hired on as an extra and ask for autographs. I was a featured extra in a movie and it's a very professional atmosphere. No one asks for autographs and it's considered unprofessional to do so. Being an extra is a job and if someone is bugging the actors for autographs, they most likely will be removed from set. Casting directors, AD's and crew people do not tolerate that sort of behavior on set. Actors don't want to be bugged for autographs from an extra because they need to focus on their jobs. If you want autographs, then I would suggest going to set as a fan. (Sorry if that came off a bit harsh, but I've seen extras ask for autographs and then almost immediately a casting director would come over and "let them go" or give them a serious warning).
