Removing a dedication

by grambax » Tue Oct 25, 2011 11:17 am

I know this has been discussed before, but its obviously a delicate issue so I'll be forgiven for re-opening it and wondering if anyone had any recent experience or specific advice.

One of my favourite actors is now sadly deceased, but ALWAYS seemed to dedicate autographs.

Obviously, I'd love an undedicated one (as I'm not going to get one to me now :( ).

The good news is that I actually have two examples (dedicated to others, obviously), both on glossy postcards (actual postcards, not a photocard). At a guess I'd say that they were signed maybe around five years ago, a couple of years either way.

Reading through the posts I could find, there were differences of opinion as to whether it was worth trying. Had I only one, I probably wouldn't risk it. I'd hate to damage either, and if the feeling was that it would be unlikely to work after years then I wouldn't try.

but as far as I can see, the suggested methods are -

Acetone (is this "just" nail remover, as from a chemist?)

Rubbing Alcohol

Dry Erase Marker (Am I right in understanding that we are saying write over it with a whiteboard marker, then rub both off?)

I'd love the scan/photoshop method, but I don't have a scanner, my photoshop skills are non-existent, and it would only work to frame the finished item anyway. It is obviously a postcard and wouldn't look right at all on any other form.

Anyway, I've been debating with myself about this for a while. I have to stop torturing myself and either try, or give up the idea for good.

So I'd be really grateful for any thoughts or advice.

Thanks!
