OP, YES you are supposed to send a letter asking for the autograph.. its rude if you dont, and I know that if I were a celebrity and was handed an envelope with just a picture and an SASE in, I'd send the SASE back with no picture inside, just to waste your time like you did to me! ;)

When sending requests, I ALWAYS write a letter, always include a SASE (unless I'm sending to America, then I only use an SAE as I cannot get IRC or American stamps, but I do mention this in my letter and apologise for the lack of postage payment on my return envelope), and I always provide one or 2 pictures to be signed. Thats the courteous way to do it, and if I were a celebrity, this is the way I'd expect my autograph requests to be. :)

When sending email requests, I also write the email like I'm writing a letter, as I find the typical "Hi I'm a huge fan of (name), please can I have a signed picture? here's my address....." really rude, and I wouldnt even answer those either.

Hope I helped :)

To think people wonder why we think this forum is full of idiots.

Seriously? That's just the height of bad manners, and a blatant lack of respect. Next you'll be refusing to stamp either the LOR or the SAE and expecting the celebrity to pay both sets of postage. Maybe next time if you're lucky, they'll knock on your door and ask if you have anything else for them to sign.

Seriously it's people like you who give autograph collectors (and people as a whole) a bad name!

I have never sent out a request without a picture and sase so go attack the freeloaders who only send email's and LOR's
At least those who send without return postage will have the decency to have a letter included that says THANK YOU to the celebrity, rather than just sticking a photo in an envelope and posting it. As I said, the height of bad manners and the type of thing that gives collectors a bad name. Do you also go into shops and just slam goods you want to buy on the counter without saying anything?

I get back most of mine without sending a letter. Celebs do not have time to read all these letters.
