I can affirm what nowandagain says :)

I too am a stamp collector from wayyyyy back, and used to soak stamps in water all the time to remove them from envelopes so I could then put them into my stamp albums.

Works a treat :D

Hi cougars :D

I have been a stamp collector for many years, so I have had no problems removing stamps from envelopes.

The ink on the stamps do not run when you soak them in water. When they dry (provided you've done it correctly) the stamps should be flat and look practically the same as a new one.

Hello Sprock Chick

Welcome to the forum :D

Legally, you're not supposed to be re-using uncancelled stamps.

However, it's up to you if you choose to do so. Just remember to remove the stamp carefully from the envelope and glue it onto a new envelope.
(Note: to remove the stamp I would suggest soaking the stamp and bit of envelope in water so the glue softens. You can then peel it off, let it dry and glue the stamp on a new envelope.)

Buona fortuna!

This has been discussed a few different times throughout this forum. The practice of re-using stamps that are not cancelled is technically illegal through the U.S. Postal Code. That said, may collectors chose to re-use stamps anyway. So if you choose to do it, do it at your own risk, but know that there may be consequences. I hope this answers your question :).
