For sure, the only way to know if an autograph is real is if it is signed in front of you.

Autopens are easy to identify, so are preprints (by comparing them to other signed photos.) You can get up to a high probability that some signatures are authentic - a TTM John Glenn is an example - but never 100 percent unless you see the person sign.

Not too great of an idea... considering more than half of the stuff on the internet is fake.

When I get a reply, I search on google images for the persons signiture, if it looks similar, but is different I'm places. Then it's usally authentic.

If its the same in every way, it's a pre print, and if you sent your own photo it would be an AP

Send them to PSA to get authenticated. But even that isn't 100% acurate.
