Hello, I am just curious if someone can help me. I was just wondering what the best way to find out if any new cast cards are available for a show like Coronation Street to be able to write them and request said cast cards. (I am from Canada)
In 97 I had a penpal in the UK who knew I loved Coronation Street. He said he had a friend in the press office who could send me 7 cast cards, which he did. I lost touch with said penpal and always wanted to continue collecting but I only was able to in 2011 when I noticed another person's cast card collection on a Corrie blog. They gave me an e-mail address to write me which led me to David Nugent at the PO who obliged my request but he didn't let me know who they had in stock and only asked me who I wanted. A friend suggested I ask for a complete set. So in drips and drabs in 2011 I got almost the entire cast except for a few because of miscommunications. Now for the past couple of years, I haven't been asking for a lot of cards as they aren't coming in as fast they were in 2011 but when I do want to get some cards, I try to make sure a good amount are available before I ask.
It also seems that in the past couple of years, the new actors are not receiving their cast cards as fast as they were getting them in 2011. I've seen some short term characters in 2011 who've got cast cards, but nowadays it can take 6 months or even more for an actor to get a cast card.
The problem lies in now that I don't have many to get and the cast is always changing and new and updated cast cards are being put out. When and how is the best way to find out when new cards are available. This year. I knew that there were two cards from last year (Rob and Ryan) that I didn't have yet and Jenna came out a few months before. In updated cast cards, I knew about Kirk and Eileen as well as Sunita who had already left. A friend of mine then told me that there were brand new cast cards for Katy Kylie and Jason. While I was told that the best way to find out was through E-BAY, Someone else spotted a new cast card on this forum, one for Gloria. I sent out a request hoping for the best.
A friend of mine had also asked for new cast cards including the Gloria card and was told that there were no new cards available.I got my parcel and ended up getting the new Rob, Ryan, and Jenna cards, Updated cast cards for Kirk and Eileen, and the same old cards for Katy Kylie and Jason. (I know other people who had gotten them). No Sunita card and no Gloria card. I was surprised at no Gloria card as Sue Johnston is not leaving until early next year while Sol Heras left so soon after I got my envelope.
It's a bit annoying trying your luck not knowing if and when the new actors on the show will actually get cast cards and when they will be available. I don't want to ask all the time and I want to make sure I can get a good bit at a time (At present I have 75 different actors bar a few) Can anybody give me some advice with TV press offices especially overseas.?
