Politeness, optimism, and patience. As has been said before, write to those you really want to have, not just as a collecting habit. Good luck!

I have found that writing to those you truly want a response back from is the most rewarding. For a while, I was getting 2-3 successes a day, but from former baseball players, etc, that I was't overly excited to receive. But when I wrote to those I really wanted a response from, that made the success that much more rewarding.

I've found that a really nice letter and keeping your word of not sharing if you have a private address etc helps. Sincerity. Try email successes or look at those who respond quickly and ofter. I just had a success with a 95 year old star that doesn't sign anymore because I did what I just suggested to you. Good luck.
