I know it can be a bit of a nightmare getting the Post Office to understand IRC's

Rest assured though that the problem is an international one - most mail workers don't know what they are
Basically, the box on the left of the coupon will either be stamped by the Post Office, or if it has a printed country name in it then that is usually fine.
The box on the right will be stamped by the recipient when they cash it in at their Post Office.
Your IRC should look similar to this one (this one is from Canada), yours should have Great Britain or UK in the left hand window.
