I always write Dear Ms./Mr. Firstname Lastname. For example: Dear Mr. Ringo Starr, it's just the way I've always done it, and it has worked so far for me :)

I also address child stars the same way, because they have also earned the respect that the adults have, and I know how good it feels to be treated like you're grown up if you're a little kid. I wrote to a four year old and addressed it Dear Mr. Ty Panitz and I got back a really cute drawing, a signed picture, and a letter that his dad had written as he told him what to say.

I always start my letters with

"Dear Mr._____ or Dear Mrs._____"

I always close my letters with

"Sincerely"

I find this to be a polite way of writing.

Just my opinion.

I tend to change the way I start out my letters. Mostly I start out for example

Dear Ron,

instead of

Dear Mr. White

But I mix it around

That's a very interesting and most helpful website. I haven't finished reading all the info yet, thus far it's been very informative. Thank you very much for passing it along. Hopefully others will read this topic and learn from it as well.

Hi all, {up}

For what it is worth, I always address the envelope as:

Firstname Surname,
Address.

But I always begin the letter as Dear Firstname.

The only time I don't do this is when the celeb has a title for example:
HRH Sarah, Duchess of York, or Sir Ian McKellen.
Then I would address it as "Dear Sir Ian", or "Madam", in the case of an HRH.

Have a look here for appropriate ettiquette on writing to titled people:

of course it is totally a matter of personal choice, but it seems to work for me!

Hope this helps!

I agree with you 150%. Not that the celebs haven't earned respect, but public office holders or those recognized by a government (Sir Ian McKellen for example) should be addressed with their proper titles. {up}

For nearly all of my requests, I would start with;

"Dear 'Person's Forename'"

There are some occassions where it seems weird to use there first name though, because of who they are or something. So for instance, if I was writing to Tony Blair, I wouldn't start with 'Dear Tony', it would be 'Dear Mr Blair'.
