If your sending a book what I do is use 9x12 padded envelopes and then take it to the post office and let them weigh it for exact postage. Then I take the sase out and have them weigh it again so I know the postage to put on my sase.
I have found it's cheaper to go to your local bookstore and purchase bookplates and send those instead of the entire book.

Hi,
I'm looking forward to writing to Christopher Paolini author of the Eragon Series, and I don't know what size envelopes should I send, or how much stamps I need... to give you an idea I live in Chicago and I think he is over at New York... so how many stamps will I need per envelope?
