Hey!
I think it's better to keep your letter unique, and a bit whacky, so they remember who you are. It's fine to put smiley faces everywhere in your letter.
Say if it's a band, I would normally write:
Dear _______
I really like your work. I admire you etc.
First sentence/paragraph, I explain why I like them so much.
Then the next paragraphs about me, like
my name is _____ and I live in ______. I think it's a shame that hardly anyone's heard of you, where I live is full of chavs. I normally say if it's someone who wishes they were famous, or a band that's not that well heard of, but the reason changes each time, and sometimes the reason is really stupid.
The next paragraph I write is normally about what I like about their work/what projects I've enjoyed. For example: I
really like the song "_______," I particually enjoyed the album "______" because it's a bit crazy, and it keeps my parents out of my bedroom for a while (:
And then I finish with the Please can I have your autograph part, and wish them luck.
I know you asked for the first sentence, but I waffled on for a bit, I honestly have nothing better to do!
