My letters follow a format, but it varies on detail depending on who I'm writing to. I always say who I am and why I am writing (whether I'm a fan of a particular show, or specifically of them, in many different shows) then I say something (usually a paragraph or two) about performances of their I have enjoyed, reasons why I like them, what I'm looking forward to of theirs etc. I then request their autograph (or to sign and dedicate the photo I have enclosed). Then I wish them health, happiness etc and sign off "love and best wishes".
