I prefer the paint pens that you can buy at hobby stores, like for painting scale model cars, but with a fine tip.

They've always been better for darker items, in my opinion. They do take longer to dry, but if you're careful, it's a guarantee for a perfect autograph!

I have one of those too. They work really well!

Does the silver sharpie's fade or any of the autographs fade if they are kept out of the sunlight and in acid free scrapbook??

A company called DECO COLOR also makes great paint pens. One shake and they are good for a run of apx. 10 signatures at a time from my experience. I've bought mine at 'Michaels', they come in fine and medium point.

We all probably know that silver sharpies suck. Sometimes, we have items that require one and the whole transaction (potential IP) is too intense to safely implement a back up plan.

Basically, what would any of you recommend if you have a one shot experience that requires signing on black.

Theories:

1) Go gold. I recently saw someone who had a gold sharpie and said she had been using it for a couple of months and it was still working well.

2) Don't open the sharpie until the time of the event. This has worked before, but sometimes does not work as planned. Perhaps there are dates to look for on the package.

3) Go with another brand. Someone once had a big one that seemed really wet, but it would have to be for bigger items as it was really thick. I would still like to know what this brand is. I spent more on a "better" brand at Michael's once. I opened it a month later for my event and it was totally dry!!
