I try to get unique items for the celebrites to sign, and very often get back positive comments. I just sent Jackie Cooper some original items from the film Treasure Island from the 1930's. Stars probably get tired of signing the same old stuff day after day. Many times a vintage item on Ebay will actually cost less than a photo.

I've had so many great responses over the years. Many celebrites have written letters back with their replies. Paul Henning (now deceased) sent me a signed book, musicians have sent me guitar picks, and so on. This is such a interactive hobby and that's what I love it so much.

Phoebe wrote:{up} Lesley Garrett sent me a beautiful 8x10 signed and personalized picture, along with a lovely note that was on both sides of a blank postcard!
She is a sweetie! I wrote to her c/o The Sound Of Music two years ago and only sent an IC. She sent me 2 signed IC's, a signed flyer and a note on a headed IC. I love her to bits! {??}

{up} Betty White - I just adore this lady! I sent her a letter, a charity donation and some photo's of my pets as she loves animals and she inscribed a photo to me and my pets and she also wrote me a letter too! My favourite success ever!!!!

{up} Chris Tarrant - Sent me a signed photo and a letter thanking me for writing such a nice letter to him.

{up} Richard Carpenter sent me a signed photo and a letter answering my questions. That was pretty cool!

{up} Martin Sheen - sent me a signed West Wing photo, a note on the back of my letter thanking me for writing a nice letter, he paid postage himself and sent my dollar back signed and he also wrote the return address on my envelope! Legend!

I can't think of any downs. I've had a few not come back but that's not the celeb's fault really!

Interesting topic! {thumb2}

I'd have to say the best one I had was Chelsea Staub, she signed both of my photos, used a different envelope than my SASE, included an extra 8x10, and gave 2 inscriptions. That was really nice. {up}

I haven't had any bad ones besides RTS (and they moved- it's not like they refused..) but my Stockard Channing was really bent, and she didn't return my Q&A. It's still one of my favorite photos autographed because she's a great actress, and I loved her in Grease! :D

And once again, interesting topic.

Wow fantastic topic!
Several people I have written to have sent great replies but not including the index card I had sent, but adding something else extra instead. :o I don't mind, as I love the pictures most send. I think that several thought that they were to keep my envelope from being bent in the mail, or something!

Some of my successes where I received more than an autographed picture:
{up} Lesley Garrett sent me a beautiful 8x10 signed and personalized picture, along with a lovely note that was on both sides of a blank postcard!

{up} Margaret Preece sent me a lovely encouraging note on the back of my picture!

{up} Luke Fredericks sent a wonderful little note too.

But there have been so many that left fantastic inscriptions, that really make something so special!

Neat topic. I like it. :)

The Good:
{??} HC "Barney" Barnum - Medal of Honor recipient. I only sent a LOR and 2 index cards. He returned 1 signed, and sent a huge envelope full of information about the Medal of Honor, his actions in Vietnam which earned him the Medal, newspaper clippings (photocopies of) and three pictures. No, I am not giving out his address.

{??} Paul Wiedorfer - Medal of Honor recipient. I sent a letter and 2 index cards. He sent back both index cards signed, a copy of what he did during World War II which earned him the Medal, and a small medallion that has his name, Medal of Honor insignia, and the date he performed his actions. It made me cry. No, I am not giving out his address.

{??} - Jimmy Smits - I wrote a letter to him, included a picture of him in Cane and my Anna in the Tropics (a play) he was in in Princeton, NJ. He signed the photo and the ticket, and wrote a lovely note back about performing in Princeton and how much fun it was.

{??} LuAnne McLane - I wrote her an email ages ago, and she emailed back. We continued to talk like that for a while, when I asked for an address to send a SASE to so I could get her autograph. She told me and sent me a signed authors proof copy of her new book, signed and dedicated.

The Bad:
{down} Placido Domingo - sent multiple letters from the mid 1980's to 2004. Got at least 3 back as RTS, and others never answered. Then I did get two, but it was at least 4 years, more likely 12-15 years waiting. The photos I'd enclosed were not used.

{down} Alex Horley-Orlandelli - illustrator/artist - RTS - Refused.

{down} Maggie Shayne - author - RTS - Refused

I'm sure there's more

Okay, I've had my fair share of great successes.

 Will Poulter, he signed and personalized my index card, and wrote me a really long letter thanking me for my support and for watching Son Of Rambow.

 Shona McGarty, she sent to me 2 personalized signed photos, one of which had a message on the back thanking me for my support and asking me a few questions. Whoever thought I'd get a questionaire back from a celebrity?

 John Altman, he signed and personalized my index card, signed and personalized 2 pictures, as well as filling in my questionaire and signing it. That's 4 autographs!

Well I started off sending index cards or magazine cut outs to celebs but I never got any of those back signed. More recently I have sent photos to the majority of celebs I have wrote to, but I have never received any of these back signed either! There have been quite a few celebs who have been really lovely with their replies though and have sent a little more than just a picture back. Here are some examples:

Beth Tweddle - She wrote me a long letter answering all my questions, giving me tips on my gymnastics as well as a signed and personalised picture.
Juila Winter - She sent me 3 signed and personalised pictures and wrote me a lovely card answering my questions.
Jorge Garcia - I wrote to him twice and both times he sent me a handwritten letter answering my questions along with a signed and personalised picture.
Savannah Outen - She sent me the loveliest message on youtube, and then she included a sticker with her signed and personalised picture.
Sir Purr - I'd been trying him for 4 years before finally getting him. He sent me 2 signed pictures (one personalised), the Panthers yearbook and a bookmark.
Alan Carr - I went to his book signing and he signed my book and leaflet, as well as my university book!
Scout Taylor-Compton - Sent me a letter, stickers and a lolly with her signed and personalised picture.
Bowling for soup - Sent me stickers and guitar picks with their signed and personalised picture.
Darryl Fitton - Sent me 3 signed (I think 2 were personalised) pictures.
