I agree in many cases khackdrums but authentication can sometimes be more than just comparing with in persons. Many in persons are such rushed scribbles that it can sometimes take comparing ttms with other known exemplars such as signatures from organised signings or other valid sources as well as rushed in persons to form an opinion of the handwriting style. Add to that where the signature was obtained from (ie; agent, home address, venue, film set) and where postmarked from and also the date received. A desk signed ttm signature can look nothing like an in person scribble - it's part of the fun working out if the sigs are real or not sometimes. :)

There are always exceptions though. There are many A-listers that send out aunthentics TTM and via venue (Examples: Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart).

You will never know 100% if the autographs you recieve TTM are authentic. The only way to to know for sure is to get an autograph IP. If you ever question an autographs authenticity, a good way to find out whether or not your autograph is real is to compare it to an IP autograph. Autographworld.com is a great site to compare to. {thumb2}

Ah ok! {thumb2} It's usually these huge starts (which everybody wants an autographs from!) who sends secretarials, unfortunately. :cry:

Good luck collecting, paulmustang1!! :mrgreen:

That you have to ask in the "Is My Autograph Authentic?" forum, preferably with a scan of the autograph. {thumb2}

Thanks!

Hi paulmustang1! ;-)

Firstly, welcome to Fanmail.biz! {clap} I hope you enjoy it here! :mrgreen:

I just want to correct you here: it is very much untrue that "most are secretairal". In fact, there's only a handful that are secretarial - of which the most are older A-list actors, such as Pacino, Eastwood, Dick Van Dyke, Travolta, Robert Redford, etc. Many big actors today, such as Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Robert Pattinson, Amanda Seyfried, etc. all sign (dare I say) 100% authentically (I have proved it in the "Is My Autograph Authentic?" forum). {thumb2} Of course, it all depends on which type of celebrities you write to - the more famous they are (I'm talking about Angelina Jolie-famous here), the bigger the chance of getting it forged are (except if you found a really good via venue address, as there has been in the past!). {up}

Please check out this list of secretarial signers which I (and jasonw) have made, and I update it regularly. :) It's really only those who are well-known secretarial signers, but if you do know about someone esle (and can proof it with pictures), feel free to let us know by posting in that topic!

Thanks!

paulmustang1 wrote:I am sure they would love to sign for all their fan's but they wouldn't be famious anymore because it would just revolve in signing autographs and not doing what they are famious for.
I have to disagree slightly with that. ;-)

I don't for one minute believe that if a celebrity put his or her mind to it, and answered their mail personally, even if they got a thousand letters a week, that they wouldn't be "famous" anymore because they signed things and didn't have time for anything else.

How many times could you write your signature in an hour? And if you have a really great secretary (which I'm sure most of the big stars do have), who can file and docket each requst, so the celerities don't even have to open the envelope or even bother sealing them, and everything is sorted out for them, then that would be even easier and quicker. And even if you don't have the greatest secretary, I still think setting aside an hour a day (or even longer when they're not doing anything in particular) will help to get some of the requests down.

That's just my opinion though. I'm not really one of these people who dimiss signatures as not being genuine unless they see them being signed in front of their eyes. If it is generally agreed by people that Mr. X signs things himself, I am happy with that.
