Yeah, I have sent loads of via venue requests to musicians when they are doing a concert at a venue that passes on fanmail.
I have got a good few successes this way:

I've sent a couple of via venue requests to signers or bands (and tons of via movie set requests, but I'm assuming you're asking about musicians :) ), and there're a few general tips:

- You should always send your letter soon enough, otherwise it might miss the performer and you would get a RTS. How early before the event you should send depends on how far from the venue you live, but at least 3-5 days before the event. You can always write something like 'Please, hold until [i]date[/i] for [i]name of the celeb[/i]' onto the envelope.
- When sending via venue, it's highly recommended to send something for the celebrity to sign because they don't usually bring their photos with them, when touring or filming.
- Sending a SASE could also increase your chances because they probably won't have time to go to the post office and buy stamps.
