I always write something that a fan would know in the letter. For example, when I wrote to John Paul Lavoisier (Rex on the soap opera One Life to Live), I told him how much I enjoyed his scenes with Robert Wood and about a storyline I really liked.
However, a bit of a "oops" story is that my friend wrote to Jacob Young (JR on the soap opera All My Children) and wrote how much she liked his work as the character Jamie. lol. He wote back and said thank you for writing and basically told her that he played JR but would let the actor playing Jamie know she liked him. lol
So another do, is make sure you know exactly who you're writing too and if they are an actor - make sure you list the correct character name if you write about a specific role.
