when i moved i told the post office my forwarding address and so far i have received at least 5 reply, and it had been almost a year since i moved. I believe they said they would forward for about a year.

I guess I will never know what happens to my requests after that. But that is part of the hobbie

I get all my fanmail requests sent to my dad's office anyways so it's not a major deal for me.

the post office does forward mail to your new home, or you can get it forwarded to a PO box. Plus, most new owners are very nice about forwarding mail. We just moved house, and I've been getting my mail forwarded to the new house.

My suggestion - if you know that you're going to be moving, stop sending requests about 6 months before you know you're going to move. Moving is stressful enough - you don't want to be worrying about autograph requests while you're packing and getting everything ready for the big move.

I've moved a few times, and I just have all of my mail forwarded to my new address. Then after a couple weeks I have it sent to either my new address or a PO box i plan to keep permanently.. I haven't tried this since autograph-collecting, but i've never lost any mail doing it this way.
good luck to all future movers ;)

Having moved quite a number of times in my life, I know it does take some time and planning to find a new place before actually moving there. I would just hold off on all requests until then, or as dobie has done, just have it sent to a PO Box or a friend.

A few months before I moved I had all of my requests sent to my PO Box instead of the house. I probably lost some, but not all. Whoever is in my house now has probably built a nice little collection.

Moving house is one of the most stressful things in life, ever. I wouldnt even attempt to add to that by worrying about post. You cant not move just because you're worried about missing some fanmail replies, however committed to the hobby you are :) Most new owners will forward you any mail :)

I'm not sure that I would be scared to move house over it but it would pray on my mind a heck of a lot. I have been in my current house for 8 years and we still get letters for the people who lived here before us and the people who lived here before them.

Hopefully if I move out my parents will continue to live in this house which would solve the problem for me :D

Is anyone too scared or worried to move house because replies may come and you wont get them? Luckily I'm not in this situation at the moment, but thinking about it amkes me not want to move ever. As some replies takes several months and even years, so to them move replies you've been dying for may come to the old house and you'll never get. The new people would forward on your mail for a few weeks maybe but not sveral months and more later.
What does everyone else think?
